A conversation that continues to float around at Organic Faith gatherings is the idea of generosity. This past Tuesday at Pub Church we once again discussed the idea of generosity and furthermore, how we as a group could be generous.
The general consensus of the group was that we just needed to try something and so it is with great pleasure that I announce the Organic Faith Generosity Experiment.
Later today, I am going out to buy a piggy bank of sorts. That piggy bank will become a staple at each and every Organic Faith event and each time the entire group will be encouraged to add money to our community’s piggy bank.
Then, each week a different person will have the honor of taking the piggy bank home with them along with a journal. During the week that individual will be encouraged to find ways to be generous with the piggy bank money as well as finding ways to add money to the piggy bank. The only requirement is that they write about where the money goes should they give any of it away.
But that’s not all. After a month of collecting money in the piggy bank we will spend time at a Pub Church to decide what to do with all the money we gathered that month, and to hear the stories of generosity that we have written down in the last month. As a community we’ll not only be sharing stories of our generosity but we will be gathering together our resources in order to be generous in ways we only could have imagined on our own.
